West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival

Dates of Operation: 3rd weekend in June (annually); next dates are June 20-22, 2008

Description: OARC produces the annual West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival in collaboration with Lifeline Music Coalition, Inc. and the Art Noir Customs Framing & Art Gallery. The 7000-7400 blocks of Ogontz Avenue are transformed into a huge outdoor festival to promote the West Oak Lane community and the commercial corridor to the surrounding communities and region. The Festival is three days of non-stop music on four stages, poetry/spoken word performances, dancers and artists, and a variety of vendors that offer food, crafts and fine art. Accomplishments:

  • The West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival has grown into an internationally known regional event from its early beginnings as the First Super Saturday Street Fair in 1983
  • Over 300,000 people attended in 2007
  • The Festival raised the West Oak Lane community's profile and power as a hub for arts, entertainment, and dining

Northwest Philly Jazz & Arts Series

Dates of Operation: Ongoing

Description: The Northwest Philly Jazz & Arts Series is a succession of smaller arts and culture events held at a variety of venues located within Northwest Philadelphia. The Series leads up to the annual West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival and helps to energize the community and heighten the excitement about events planned for the community at-large all year long.

Sadiki's Restaurant

Dates of Operation: Weekly; Tuesday - Saturday, 5pm - 11pm; Sunday 1pm - 8pm

Description: OARC sponsors entertainment and provides marketing for Sadiki's weekly evening events. The restaurant is a weekly host to salsa dancing, jazz, and R&B. .  There is a bar, two dining areas and a large outside patio. Sadiki's Restaurant offers each week on Tuesdays Salsa Dancing, on Wednesdays, radio personalities in-person from Smooth Jazz WJJZ 97.5 for Wine Down Wednesdays, on Thursdays a house DJ, and live music entertainment Friday and Saturday. Each Sunday you can get scrumptious soul food from 1pm until 8pm.  Location: 7152 Ogontz Avenue, onsite parking, gift certificates and private parties available.

Wine Down Wednesdays

Dates of Operation: Weekly, Wednesday evenings

Description: OARC contracts with WJJZ 97.5 radio station to present an after-work affair every Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sadiki's Restaurant. Each week a different WJJZ on-air personality is on site to stimulate excitement and activity at the Sadiki's.
