And all that fun leads up to the biggest party of the year, the West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival. For one weekend every June, the neighborhood grooves to the sounds of nationally known musicians and hundreds of the region's coolest performers who jam on four stages while thousands of fans stroll the streets, noshing on snacks, picking up one-of-a-kind crafts and celebrating good times.
As for the rest of the year, feel free to pick a night. Any night! No matter when you are here, it will be the best night of the week. Here's a sampling of what's going on in West Oak Lane:
- Wine Down Wednesdays: You're halfway through the work week. Celebrate with radio personalities from Smooth Jazz 97.5 WJJZ along with the cool crowd who gather to swing and sway to the hottest dance tunes and the hottest jazz around. (Coming soon to: Sadiki's, 7152 Ogontz Avenue)
- Poetry at ART NOIR: The word is out. For poets, writers and other wordsmiths, this open-mic is the hottest mic around. Every Thursday evening, aspiring writers from as far away as New York and as nearby as around the corner gather to share their words. (Beginning September 13, 2007: Art Noir, 7175C Ogontz Avenue)
- Line Dancing for Adults: Come out and join us every Thursday, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm as we learn the latest and greatest line dances ever! Don't be bashful - these are beginner's classes. (West Oak Lane Senior Citizens' Center, 7210 - 7218 Ogontz Avenue)
